This 2008 Gretsch G6120TM Chet Atkins model, almost looks like a straight 1959 Chet Atkins Model 6120 reissue, but with a few upgrades you just couldnt have gotten in 59. These include a tiger maple top, back, and sides, an Adjust-o-matic bridge, and gold hardware. The gold hardware and the tiger maple add just the right touch of class to what is certainly one of the best instruments Gretsch ever built, which eventually came to be known as the Chet Atkins Nashville. The sound is unmistakably Gretsch, courtesy of a pair of FilterTron humbucking pickups. Unlike other manufacturers, Gretsch decided not to use conventional tone controls, opting instead for a 3-way toggle switch that rolls off just the right amount of highs in one position and emphasizes just the midrange and low frequencies in the others. The 3-piece figured maple neck has a genuine ebony fingerboard with the neo-classical thumbnail position markers. The headstock has a nice piece of tiger maple stained to match the rest of the instrument, plus a pearl horseshoe inlay. Finally, this beauty has the famous Gretsch Orange finish and it comes complete with a deluxe hardshell case with all the cool retro-style case candy.
