Summary:
This is one fine Japanese made instrument from 1982. The Yamaha SG
1500 has a neck through body design, push/push pots for coil
splitting the humbuckers and a fast playing thin neck with the super
cool split triangle B-2 Bomber inlays. This guitar has been
gigged, played and rocked relentlessly for many years made apparent
by the amount of honest playwear all over the guitar and deep grooves
worn into the fingerboard. Fortunately, there is no headstock break,
only the tuners and 3 way toggle have been changed and it has had a
professional refret so it is playing great. It has just been setup
by our in-house guitar tech and ships in an aftermarket hardshell
case. These guitars are often referred to as Les Paul killers
for their great tone and versatility, but they are also know to be
heavyyy! This one is on the lighter side at 9 pounds 3 ounces and it
feels just fine on a strap.
Body:
The body is 7 pieces in all, the 3 piece neck is one with the body,
it is mahogany/maple with a carved top, transparent red finish, w/b/w
binding, double cutaway and it has a belly contour.
Neck:
The neck-through-body design is made up of 2 pieces of maple with a
mahogany center piece, it has a slim 60s carve, bound rosewood
fingerboard, 22 frets, split triangle or as I like to call them B-2
Bomber inlays, bone nut and multi ply w/b/w bound headstock. It
has a 1.675 nut width and 25 scale length.
Pickups/Hardware:
It has the 2 original Yamaha humbuckers, coil splitting tone
knobs, 2 volumes, 3 way toggle, gold plated tune-o-matic style bridge
with hard engraved tailpiece, gold Kluson style tuners with green
keystones, bone nut and the original gold easy grip knobs.
Cosmetics:
This Yamaha SG has a lot of wear consistent with a guitar that was
heavily gigged as someones main instrument for many year. It will be
difficult to note every single nick, ding and blemish so feel free to
ask questions and let the pictures be a guide as well. There are
dings in the top of the headstock, scratches on the face of the
headstock from string changes, the back of the neck has been sanded a
bit, there are some small dents in the neck, chips in the finish and
wear through the finish where the fingerboard meets the neck, there
are grooves worn into the fingerboard, some major deep grooves worn
way up from the 14th-18th
fret under the E string and only minor fret wear because the guitar
was refretted. There is buckle rash, pick scratches, dents, dings,
and major wear through the finish all around the edges especially on
the bottom side, holes where the pickguard was mounted, extra hole in
the end where a strap button was moved a few mm and dings in the
finish on the top. There is evidence of the seams in the back
separating a bit but overall it feels very solid.
Playability:
Our in-house guitar tech has just inspected, setup and restrung
this guitar with a new set of 10s. The neck is straight, the truss
rod is fully functioning and the action has been setup low and
comfortable. The frets are in good shape with some minor grooves or
divots from use but it plays beautifully up and down the fingerboard
with no dead spots or choking out.
Modifications:
changed tuners, new bone nut, refret, changed 3 way toggle, strap
lock style buttons are installed.
Weight:
9 lbs, 3 oz.
Case:
This guitar comes with an aftermarket hardshell case and we will ship
it professionally packed and fully insured!
